Rich Heyman is running for City Council District 9 to make Austin a city that works for working people.
In this era, when relationships between the federal & state governments and cities are rapidly changing, we need bold new thinking, not business as usual and more of the same from establishment politicians. We need new priorities.
Things I want to accomplish:
Foster new economic development initiatives that prioritize community wealth building, local autonomy and resilience, and loosen our reliance on the whims of Wall Street.
Prioritize true affordable housing, stabilize vulnerable neighborhoods, and create responsible development policies, not reckless ones that mostly serve developer and lobbyist interests while displacing lower-income residents.
Invest more in the climate equity plan, mitigate flooding potential, increase urban tree canopy.
Protect public spaces, assets, and jobs from privatization.
Create mechanisms for real and transparent community and neighborhood participation in local government decision making, not token gestures.
3 Reasons to vote for me:
INFORMED: I have spent 30 years researching and teaching about cities, so I know how cities work, how they should work, and how they could work—to put our communities first, not big developers.
UNAFRAID: I am values driven and will stand up against powerful interests and bullies.
UNBOUGHT: I’m a community-oriented public servant, not a career politician.
